Ellerton students urged to ‘rock’ for success

STUDENTS OF Ellerton Primary School have been encouraged to put their best foot forward for 2023.

During a recent visit to the school by representatives of Sagicor – which has adopted the school for the 2022-2023 academic year – the students were told that such an approach would not only serve them well for this year, but for years to come.

Representatives from the insurance and financial solutions provider’s marketing and communications department were invited to be a part of the school’s morning assembly, to deliver a message of motivation and inspire them to take steps today that would help them pursue their dreams.

The session was led by Sagicor’s social engagement officer Georgina Callender, whose message to the 170 students was that they all already had the tools to do their best in all aspects of their lives.

Callender developed and utilised the theme “LETS ROCK” in her brief but inspiring address, with each letter of the theme representing a different characteristic or quality – lessons, education, together, steady; responsible, original, confident, kind.

“Each of you have access to the tools you need to follow your dreams. Throughout every period of your lives, you will encounter many challenges that give you the opportunity to learn meaningful ‘lessons’, every day you have access to free, high-quality ‘education’, which you and your friends can utilise ‘together’ to go as far as possible, but with a slow and ‘steady’ approach that gives you the best chance to win the race of life,” she told the students.

“You are ‘responsible’ for your future and the direction that you take, which is why you should not be afraid to be different, because you can choose to go your own way and be ‘original’ and ‘confident’ in yourself and your purpose. Most importantly, however, be ‘kind’,” she added.

Principal Anthony Haynes thanked the Sagicor team for sharing their message with the students of the St George institution, noting that sessions and activities such as those go a long way towards inspiring the students by providing them with a fresh perspective on life, separate from what they’ve become accustomed to from their teachers and parents.
